Of Style and Elegance – Swiss Embroideries

swiss 218x300 Of Style and Elegance – Swiss Embroideries

When you are getting into the spirit of festive shopping, how would you feel if you are asked (ordered, rather) to accompany a family member as navigator! So, there I was, saying ‘go straight, turn left, etc.’  glumly to Ms.B. As they say: Too bad you can’t choose your family members.

But you cannot remain disinterested for too long, especially when surrounded by exquisite dress materials and fabrics. We were at My Style, an exclusive showroom for Swiss Embroideries. Though the materials seemed a bit like hakoba, and the pastel shades made it seem like chikankari, they were neither, as a closer inspection revealed. The embroidery was intricate, without the cutwork of hakoba and quite differently done from chikankari. Then we learnt that “Swiss Embroidery” designs are distinctly different.

The Swiss Embroideries brand products are manufactured by Craigmore Textiles of Bangalore in Swiss-made embroidery machines. My Style, a franchise of Swiss Embroideries, was started four years back by Mr Dipakt Samtani to present Swiss Embroideries’ products to the discerning customers of Chennai.

Punitha and Pushpa enthusiastically showed us the dress materials. Soon Mr Dipakt, joined in. Instinctively he seems to know what would interest you the most. He is very convincing, if the very look of the pretty embroidered flowers in pastel colored fabrics haven’t already convinced you into buying.

The salwar and sarees are of pure cotton, Swiss voile and organdi on which delicate floral patterns are embroidered. The prices of sarees start from Rs 799. There are mix-and-match kurtas also, besides the salwar sets.

The white-on-white all over salwars, (ie) white embroidery over the entire white salwar base were quite new additions and had an understated elegance about them.

The embroidered kurta materials on stiff and stylish organdi are real style statements. There are laces, lace-type stoles and the latest additions of embroidered dupattas in chiffon and mulmul.

There are white-on-white men’s kurta sets as well, with prices starting from Rs. 899. The prices are competitive considering the fine embroidery.

There are more coming in over the next weeks for Christmas.
The dress materials were too good to resist and I ended up buying a couple of salwar sets. It was Ms. B who paid for them! That leaves me with no choice but to take back what I said about family members.
